Meet Dr. Sammann
I love being an orthodontist. Helping people improve their health, appearance, smile and self-confidence makes me excited to go to work each day. I take what I do very seriously but at the same time try to make it fun for our patients. It is such an honor to work with the best patients and give them a reason to smile bigger, brighter and more often. When I see my younger patients, I often tell them that we are going to grow up together. I feel blessed to be a part of my patients’ lives whether it is during their elementary school years, adolescence or even adulthood. It is what I have been doing for almost 40 years, and I cannot think of anything else that I would rather do.

My interest in orthodontics stemmed from my own experience when I was 12 years old. My orthodontist treated me like a friend, asking about my interests and sharing with me things about his own life. After I decided that this was the path I wanted to take, I attended the University of California at Berkeley for my Bachelor of Arts degree and continued on to the University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry (UCSF) to earn my Doctorate of Dental Surgery. It was there that I also completed my specialty training in orthodontics.

Outside the Office
Lafayette became my home at age three when my mom and dad built our home in a walnut orchard in Reliez Valley. I now live only four miles from that home and two miles from our office with my wife, Mary Joan, an incredible interior designer. We have one brilliant daughter, Amanda, who is a surgeon at UCSF. To keep us company at home, Mary and I have two cats, Buddy and Pumpkin.
My main interest outside of my family and orthodontics is physical fitness. I love working out at the gym and running the hills and trails that surround our beautiful town. It is so cool to see the great views and terrain, along with jack rabbits, coyotes, snakes, one bobcat, three wild pigs and one cougar spotted to date. I have also regained an interest in road biking and in the summer and winter, take part in water and snow skiing. In short, I work, work out and live life to the fullest!
